WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced today the successful conclusion of a war that was not a war, praising U.S. and Israeli forces for decisively preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon that officials confirmed it was on the verge of obtaining, even though the same capabilities had been “completely obliterated” by American and Israeli strikes twelve months earlier and reopening a strait that wasn’t closed before.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, Trump described the action as “the most beautiful, perfect operation you’ve ever seen—maybe in the history of the world.”

“We went in, we took care of business, and now the war—which wasn’t even a war, by the way, because wars are very long and expensive and this was very quick and tremendous—is over,” Trump said. “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. We made sure of that. Again.”

Administration officials emphasized that the latest strikes were essential because intelligence indicated Tehran had reconstituted its nuclear program “almost completely” in the intervening year, despite repeated assertions from the same officials that the previous campaign had left Iran’s facilities in “smoldering ruins” with “zero capability remaining.”

When pressed on the apparent discrepancy, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified:

“The president’s words were extremely accurate at the time. The obliteration was total. What happened afterward was a different obliteration scenario.”

A key outcome of the non-war, according to Trump, is the imminent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which had not been closed before the non-war.

“The Strait is going to be open—wide open—like it was never even slightly inconvenienced,” Trump said. “Tankers are going to flow. Oil is going to flow. Everything is going to flow beautifully. The Iranians, who weren’t blocking anything, have agreed not to block it even more.”

Shipping data showed maritime traffic in the Strait continued at near-normal levels throughout the period of non-closure, with only minor insurance premium adjustments described by maritime analysts as “precautionary.”

Pentagon officials nevertheless celebrated the operation’s success in restoring passage.

Iranian state media responded by calling the U.S. and Israeli actions “a cowardly violation of our non-closed strait and non-existent nuclear sites,” while quietly resuming limited oil exports.

Trump responded on Truth Social: “They’re totally defeated. Sad!”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised the mission’s precision, noting that “not one innocent oil tanker was inconvenienced, because the strait was never shut, which is why reopening it is such a historic victory.”

Critics, including several anonymous officials who participated in last year’s complete obliteration, expressed mild confusion but declined to comment on the record.

One retired general, speaking on condition of anonymity, said simply, “We obliterated it. Then we obliterated it again. At this rate, Iran’s nuclear program is going to be the most obliterated non-program in history.”

Trump concluded his remarks by promising a major celebration.

“We’re going to have a parade—maybe the biggest ever. For peace. For strength. For straits that stay open even when they’re closed. America is winning again, folks. Believe me.”
