Two Imperial AT-ATs Seen Patrolling Around Obama Presidential Center
CHICAGO – Local residents and tourists were left both awestruck and mildly concerned Tuesday after two massive Imperial AT-AT walkers were observed lumbering through the grounds of the newly opened Barack Obama Presidential Center.
The four-legged, 50-foot-tall behemoths, emblazoned with subtle Obama Foundation branding on their armored plating, were seen methodically patrolling the perimeter of the lakeside complex. Eyewitnesses reported the unmistakable clanking of mechanical joints and the low hum of repulsorlift engines as the walkers scanned the area with powerful floodlights.
An Obama Foundation spokesperson confirmed the presence of the Imperial assets but described them as “standard security enhancements.”
“President Obama has always believed in peace through strength,” said the spokesperson, who again requested to be called only Mike or Big Mike. “These AT-ATs are simply a forward-thinking measure to protect the legacy of hope and change from any potential threats — whether they be domestic terrorists, rogue Jedi, or people who ask too many questions about the library’s funding.”
According to sources familiar with the Center’s operations, the AT-ATs are equipped with state-of-the-art crowd control lasers and are programmed to issue stern but inspirational warnings such as “This is not the resistance you are looking for” before dispensing crowd-dispersing ion bursts. Foundation officials emphasized that the walkers would only be used defensively and never against peaceful protesters exercising their First Amendment rights — unless those rights become inconvenient.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson welcomed the mechanical reinforcements, calling them “an exciting public-private partnership that brings much-needed jobs to the area and sends a powerful message about equity and deterrence.”
One longtime South Side resident, who asked to remain anonymous while standing in the shadow of a towering walker leg, offered a more measured reaction: “I thought the library was gonna have some nice exhibits and maybe a gift shop. Now we got giant robot camels from space. It’s… different.”
The deployment comes amid ongoing criticism of the Presidential Center’s massive cost overruns and security protocols. When asked whether the AT-ATs would be removed once the facility transitions into a polling location, Big Mike dismissed the question outright.
“Voting is a sacred right,” he said. “AT-ATs respect democracy. They only step on threats to it.”
As of press time, the two walkers continued their slow, deliberate patrol, occasionally pausing to project holographic messages of unity across the Chicago skyline. Organizers have confirmed that additional Imperial reinforcements, including possible TIE fighter flyovers, may be added for the Center’s official summer programming.
