MINNEAPOLIS — In a carefully worded statement released Thursday, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) announced that she is transgender, a development she said will allow her household to embody the full spectrum of the LGBTQ+ acronym in a single nuclear family unit.

“After deep reflection and consultation with my team, I have come to understand that I am a man,” Omar said in the statement.

“This realization, combined with my husband’s previously disclosed orientation and our longstanding familial arrangement, means we now check every box: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and the plus.”

The congresswoman’s husband, Tim Mynett, has for years been the subject of persistent online speculation regarding both his sexuality and alleged blood relation to Omar.

Sources close to the couple confirmed that the pair view the new disclosure as an efficient administrative solution.

“One household, complete coverage,” a senior aide explained. “No need for additional members or external partnerships.”

Omar emphasized that the transition will not interrupt her committee work or voting record.

She plans to retain her current name and pronouns in official correspondence “for continuity,” while updating internal diversity reports to reflect the expanded demographic achievement.

Political observers noted the announcement arrives amid ongoing debates over identity representation in Congress.

One analyst described it as “a remarkably comprehensive approach to intersectionality, achieved with minimal additional staffing.”

Omar’s office declined to provide further medical or personal details, stating only that the family remains focused on “serving the people of Minnesota’s Fifth District while modeling inclusive excellence.”

At press time, the congresswoman was said to be reviewing updated HR forms.
