Walmart pulls Fried Chicken & Watermelon ‘Juneteenth’ ice cream after backlash

LOS ANGELES—Walmart has apologized for the Juneteenth items that its selling at its stores, specifically the Watermelon & Fried Chicken ice cream that is under the retailer’s Great Value brand. The big box retailer sent a statement to Genesius Times apologizing for the items.
“Juneteenth holiday is a great holiday for black folk and lots of black folk shop at Walmart,” the company statement to GT read. “However, we received feedback that a few items caused concern for some of our customers—specifically the Watermelon and Fried Chicken Ice Cream.”
Many people were outraged at the commercialization of the sacred holiday.
“I mean I appreciate they trying to cater to us brothers and sisters but damn. Just because we like watermelon and fried chicken don’t mean we like them together in a damn ice cream!” Twitter user Jama’al Jenkins said.
The Juneteenth ice cream was to be sold alongside its Pride Month flavor, which included triple fudge topped with HIV.
