Being perfectly sane is now classified as a mental illness by the World Health Organization – a key sign of progress for people with mental disorders.
“People who don’t have anything wrong with them make mentally ill people feel worse, so we need to stop that and declare them mentally ill,” WHO spokesman Mark Honkhonk said at a press conference wearing a multicolored hair wig.
WHO announced Monday that in its newly released edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), it is now a psychological condition to be completely sane.
This follows the move by the organization to reclassify gender incongruence as a sexual health condition instead of a mental health disorder.
“According to the WHO, if you think you are not your biological sex, you’re normal but if you think you are your biological sex, you are mentally disordered,” Honkhonk said.
Gender incongruence is “characterized by a marked and persistent incongruence between an individual’s experienced gender and the assigned sex,” according to the International Classification of Diseases. But that’s psychologically okay according to the WHO.
Also classified as a mental disorder are logically reasonable people, people with sound financial savvy, and people who make generally healthy decisions.
