After several tense hours of procedural maneuvering, lawmakers managed to table, delay, or refer to committee a short list of bills that risked producing tangible results on border security, energy permitting, and entitlement reform. Sources familiar with the negotiations described the final hours as “a close call.”
“There was a real danger that something might have passed,” said one senior aide who requested anonymity. “A couple of members started talking about ‘actually solving a problem,’ and leadership had to step in quickly. We got it under control.”
The chamber’s last full day before the break featured extended debate on a resolution congratulating a regional high school robotics team, followed by several hours of unanimous consent agreements that carefully avoided controversial substance.
