Ben & Jerry’s To Close Permanently After Realizing Entire United States Was Once Indigenous Land
Last week Ben & Jerry’s customers were calling for a Bud Light-style boycott of the ice cream brand after it blasted the U.S. as existing “on stolen land.”
“This 4th of July, it’s high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it,” Ben & Jerry’s wrote on its Twitter account, linking to a blog post on the topic.
Ben & Jerry’s must have realized afterward that the entire United States was once indigenous land, because it followed up with another tweet. “After much research and introspection, we realize that this entire country once belonged to the indigenous people. We cannot in good conscience, therefore, continue to operate our company. We will be closing down permanently. We appreciate everyone’s support during this difficult time.”
