City of Memphis erects statue of Ezekiel Kelly who went on mostly peaceful shooting spree this week
MEMPHIS—About 200 community members gathered to celebrate the unveiling of a statue of Ezekiel Kelly, the austere repeat offender suspected of mostly peacefully shooting and killing four people and injuring at least three others in a rampage on Wednesday afternoon.
A life-size statue honoring the austere teen now stands at Black Lives Matters Avenue and Fourth Streets.
Before the unveiling, a parade celebrating Kelly’s 19th birthday marched down Beale from Main to Fourth. Carriages, Corvettes and musicians with clashing cymbals made their way along the parade route to the site of the ceremony.
As the bronze statue was unveiled, it was met with cheers, applause, and gunfire.
