WASHINGTON, DC—The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – NOAA – said on Friday that the next tropical storm will be named for the transgender community and will be called They/Them.

“For far too long, storms have been named after straight men or straight women,” a spokesperson for NOAA said. “We want to include the trans community as well. That’s why we’re naming the next storm Tropical Storm They/Them, to show our commitment to underserved communities.”

Anyone who disrespects or refuses to use the storm’s preferred pronouns could face a financial penalty of up to $1,000, or 1 year in prison, or both.
