Omar offers condolences to friends and family of ISIS leader killed in raid

WASHINGTON, DC—Islamic State (ISIS) leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was killed in an overnight U.S. military raid in Syria, President* Joe Biden announced Thursday.

US Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) immediately released a statement offering her condolences to the friends and family of the deceased religious leader.

“It is with a heavy heart that I offer my thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of such a remarkable man—the austere religious scholar, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi,” Omar said. “I felt a real connection with him and I probably would’ve married him if we were more closely related.”

Intelligence reports had established that Qurayshi was living with his family on the second floor of the residential building in Atmeh and that he never ventured outside, instead using couriers to despatch his orders to IS cells in Syria and elsewhere, they said. Another family not believed to be connected to IS or aware of Qurayshi’s presence lived on the ground floor.

Biden ordered a double vanilla ice-cream with the assault raid, sources say.
