Omar: ‘We must tear down this system of oppression that allows me to say we must tear down this system of oppression’
WASHINGTON DC—US Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has called on the US, “to tear down this system of oppression which has given me, an immigrant of color, the ability to become a US representative and a platform to say we must tear down this system of oppression.”
But the Somali immigrant’s remarks have outraged people with any sense of logic, who say the irony is too much to handle.
Oppression is seen pretty much across the board in the American system, Omar claimed in a speech in Minnesota on Tuesday.
“We are fighting to tear down systems of oppression that exist that allow me to claim we live in a system of oppression,” she said. “The fact that people in countries like my native Somalia are imprisoned for even talking about the oppression people face is a sign that America is the real oppressor.”
Omar, a Somali-American, has frequently called for the dismantling of the Minneapolis Police Department since the death of George Floyd in the city, calling it ‘rotten to the root.’
“But we cannot stop at tearing down the criminal justice system. We must tear down the entire system that allows people to be so oppressed that they must be paid by George Soros to destroy stuff to pretend that they’re oppressed by Starbucks.”
