Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Invents Groundbreaking Car That Runs on Neither Gas Nor Electricity
WASHINGTON — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced Thursday the development of a new mode of personal transportation designed to eliminate reliance on fossil fuels and the electrical grid, describing it as a major step forward in the fight against climate change.
The vehicle, which the congresswoman called the “Equine Mobility Solution,” does not require gasoline, diesel, or any form of electric charging. Instead, it is propelled by one or more horses attached to the front of a wheeled carriage structure.
“This is what real innovation looks like,” Ocasio-Cortez said at a brief press availability outside the Capitol. “For too long, the auto industry has forced working families to choose between polluting the planet and paying outrageous energy bills. My design cuts both problems out of the equation entirely.”
According to materials distributed by her office, the horse-driven car produces zero tailpipe emissions and requires no lithium, cobalt, or rare-earth minerals. Supporters noted that the primary energy source is renewable, locally sourced, and capable of reproducing itself under proper care.
Transportation analysts said the concept revisits proven 19th-century technology while aligning with contemporary environmental goals. Early prototypes reportedly feature modern amenities such as cup holders and optional solar-powered phone chargers for the driver, though the propulsion system itself remains entirely biological.
Critics raised questions about infrastructure needs, including the availability of horse boarding facilities in urban areas, the management of organic waste byproducts, and average travel speeds. Ocasio-Cortez dismissed such concerns as “the same old talking points used to protect Big Oil and Big Battery.”
“Change is never convenient for the status quo,” she said. “But if we are serious about saving the planet, we have to be willing to move at the pace of the horse.”
The congresswoman indicated she is exploring pilot programs in progressive municipalities and has invited automakers to license the design. No timeline for mass production was provided.
