BREAKING: Chicago cancels all drive-by shootings this week due to high gas prices
CHICAGO—Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that all drive-by shootings will be suspended due to high gas prices.
“I’m sorry to announce we are canceling all drive-by shootings this week due to the skyrocketing gas prices. I hope that the citizens will bear with us in this difficult time,” Lightfoot said.
Gas prices in the Chicagoland area rose a dollar since early Monday, to a new record of $4.71 a gallon. Some gas stations are accepting extra kidneys or lungs in exchange for a full tank of gasoline.
Drive-by shooting is one of Chicago’s favorite pastimes with over a quarter of residents participating at least once a month.
“We were able to keep the drive-by shootings going during the pandemic and we’re very proud of that, but it’s just not feasible right now with these high gas prices,” Lightfoot added.
