US—A local woman is once again the early favorite to win her husband’s 12-team fantasy football league, according to last year’s final standings and the fact that she has not opened the app since draft night.

The wife claimed the championship last January with a roster she selected in August and never touched. She is using the same approach this season. Her husband, who has already spent an estimated 20 hours on waiver claims, mock drafts, and a new spreadsheet titled “THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT,” sits in the middle of the pack after Week 1.

League commissioner Derek H. confirmed the wife’s team remains on auto-start. “She still has last year’s kicker,” he said. “I looked. She hasn’t dropped anyone.”

The husband declined a full interview. He said his wife “doesn’t know what a snap count is” and that he had already sent her two trade offers, both unread. He noted that several of her drafted players are on bye in the coming weeks and that she has not set a single lineup.

Reached while packing lunches, the wife said she “just picked the same guys as last time, plus the one with the bird on the helmet.” She asked whether the league still used the same trophy. It does. The trophy has been on the kitchen counter since February.

Other managers, who reconvened in the group chat the husband named “No Casual Talk,” have begun placing informal side bets on whether she will log in before Thanksgiving. One manager said he stopped preparing trade pitches after last season, when three midseason offers sat unopened until the playoffs were over.

The regular season ends in late December. The husband has already ordered a larger trophy, just in case.
