FBI agents keep getting targeted ads asking if they are promoting extremism
WASHINGTON, DC—In a law enforcement mystery, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have been getting several targeted ads paid for by the FBI asking them if they are promoting extremism.
“We set up the targeted Facebook ad campaign to find only people who are promoting extremism,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said. “But the only ones seeing our ads are FBI agents for some reason.”
A Facebook representative said that the algorithm is running as expected and only those people promoting extremism on the platform are seeing the ads.
“Our ad platform is very sophisticated. It can detect the people promoting extremism and deliver the ad only to those people. That’s what’s happening,” Facebook Advertising Vice President Sanjay Gupta said.
For some reason only FBI agents are seeing the ads.
“I was just finishing up our second sting operation in which we were trying to get people to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and I thought, hey, now would be a good time to check the Facebook,” FBI Agent Reed Dicknose said. “And all I see on my feed is, ‘Are you or someone you know promoting extremism?’ It’s really annoying.
Dicknose assures us that they will foil the plot they set up to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer again.
