In a world that often feels weighed down by constant seriousness, It’s Okay to Laugh is a simple, heartfelt charitable initiative reminding everyone that experiencing amusement is not only allowed — it’s human.
Launched by Genesius Times, the campaign exists to gently push back against the growing habit of treating every moment with solemn intensity. We believe that a quiet chuckle, a spontaneous smile, or even an occasional full laugh at life’s everyday absurdities should not come with guilt, disclaimers, or self-censorship.

We, the undersigned, humbly petition the relevant authorities (and whoever else might be listening) to immediately restore the legal status of laughter in all public and private spaces.
For too long, society has endured the oppressive regime of solemnity. Spontaneous chuckles, ironic snorts, and outright guffaws have been treated as suspicious at best and microaggressions at worst. Citizens have been forced to suppress natural human responses to absurdity, irony, and the occasional dad joke, living in constant fear of being labeled “insensitive,” “problematic,” or—worst of all—”not getting it.”
This campaign, “It’s Okay to Laugh,” seeks to decriminalize the simple act of finding things funny. We demand:
- The right to emit audible laughter without triggering sensitivity audits or HR investigations.
- Protection from accusations of “punching down” when the joke is simply… funny.
- An end to the mandatory somber nodding that currently passes for discourse.
- Recognition that not every observation requires a trigger warning, safe space, or group therapy session.
Laughter is not hate speech. It is not violence. It is, in fact, one of the few remaining non-pharmaceutical treatments for the soul-crushing earnestness that has gripped modern life.
We ask only for what previous generations took for granted: the freedom to point out the emperor has no clothes—and then laugh when he insists the fabric is ethically sourced organic cotton.
Sign this petition if you believe it’s okay to laugh again. Quietly, if necessary. For now.
(But preferably out loud.)
