Climate Scientists Pray to Climate Goddess Greta to Bring Hurricanes And Fulfill Al Gore’s Prophecy
Climate advocates assembled at first light Tuesday on a public pier over the Gulf of America to petition Greta Thunberg, whom several called the movement’s “climate goddess,” to deliver hurricanes to the United States and thereby redeem Al Gore’s long-standing forecast of escalating Atlantic catastrophe.
The gathering followed two seasons that organizers described as a theological emergency. The 2026 Atlantic season has produced no hurricanes through mid-September, the latest such start in the satellite record. The 2025 season produced no hurricane landfalls on the continental United States for the first time in a decade.
Participants said the drought coincided with the early-2025 dismantling of most USAID programs and the January 2025 order renaming the former Gulf of Mexico. They treated both events as a rupture in the sacred timetable first sketched by Gore.
“Gore told us the storms would come harder and more often,” said Marisol Voss, 34, a former climate communications fellow who now chairs Restore the Chaos. “We have waited. The maps changed. The aid stopped. The hurricanes did not arrive. That is not science taking a pause. That is prophecy unpaid.”
About 40 people formed a loose circle, holding laminated images of Thunberg and a smaller portrait of Gore from An Inconvenient Truth. A banner read “FULFILL THE FORECAST.” A speaker played a loop of Gore’s 2006 hurricane warnings overlaid with Thunberg’s 2019 “How dare you” clip. One volunteer scattered crushed kale on the water and recited, “As it was written in the PowerPoint.”
Voss said the group is not requesting a particular storm name or landfall county. “We only need enough accumulated cyclone energy to keep the slides from looking foolish,” she said. “A quiet peak week is an apostasy.”
The National Hurricane Center continues to cite El Niño and hostile wind shear. It has issued no guidance on goddesses or former vice presidents.
A State Department official said USAID decisions “do not constitute a weather office.” Interior noted that the Gulf of America designation “does not rewrite the laws of thermodynamics.”
Thunberg has not answered the group’s Instagram petition or the certified letter addressed to “Climate Goddess, c/o the biosphere.” Organizers said they would interpret any tropical wave in the next ten days as a sign.
Local fisherman Ellis Boudreaux watched from a folding chair. “If Gore needs a hurricane to be right, he can have one,” he said. “Just park it offshore.”
The rite concluded after a brief shower, which Voss called “a down payment, not the fulfillment.” A second vigil is scheduled for the traditional peak of the season, pending further instruction from the goddess.
