SACRAMENTO—Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all California women to wear a new complete face covering while in public or high-risk settings, including when shopping, taking public transit or seeking medical care, after growing concerns that an increase in coronavirus cases has been caused by residents failing to voluntarily take that precaution.

The new mask is a black cloth that is said to protect against transmission of COVID-19 and lustful thoughts. Men are not required to wear them.

Newsom’s order came a week after Orange County rescinded a requirement for residents to wear masks and as other counties across California were debating whether to join local jurisdictions that had mandated face coverings.

Transwomen will be exempted from the mandate and given $50,000 a month.

“Simply put, we are seeing too many people with faces uncovered — putting at risk the real progress we have made in fighting the disease and our push toward Sharia law,” Newsom said in a statement. “California’s strategy to restart the economy and force people back to morality will only be successful if people act safely and follow health recommendations. That means women wearing a total face covering, washing your hands, and not eating bacon.”

Under state law, women who violate the new requirement could be charged with a misdemeanor and potentially face stoning, according to a representative for the Newsom administration. However, officials have shied away from enforcing other statewide coronavirus mandates with similar actions, choosing instead to encourage compliance and educate residents by flogging.
