SOUTH BEND—In a surprise announcement, former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has declared victory in the 2020 US presidential election.

“America, you have shocked the world!” Buttigieg said from his election night party which began at noon Indiana time. “What a night. Because tonight, an improbable hope became an undeniable reality.”

Buttigieg made the announcement before any results had been released.

“It’s a little strange that he’s declaring victory so early, especially considering the fact that he wasn’t on the ballot in any state,” political analyst Hans Solo said. “But we’re going to wait and see if his confidence is apropos.”

As of the time of this publication, no state had released its election results.

“So we don’t know all the results, but we know by the time it’s all said and done, America you have shocked the world. Because by all indications, we are going on to Washington victorious!” Buttigieg told the crowd in comments that drew criticism online.

Asked Tuesday by CNN’s John Jackass how he can claim victory without results, Buttigieg cited his campaign’s internal data.
